MONDAY, DECEMBER 25, 1978 – CHRISTMAS!!! Fenton/Flint
I got up at 7:30 a.m. today, went downstairs and opened our stockings. In my stocking I got this diary, some “Yes and Know” quiz books, nail clippers and some candy. We ate breakfast and opened our gifts. I got a shirt, two records (Jazz – Queen, Weekend Warrior – Ted Nugent), a copy of Webster’s Dictionary, some first-day covers, a water bottle for my bike, a targetball game and a Timex watch! Grandma and Grandpa came over and we all had Christmas dinner together. I’m now spending the night here at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. It’s good to get a break from work. Tomorrow, we plan to go to Mickey and Mike’s if all goes well. Well, it was a great Christmas!!!

I got up at 9:30 a.m. today and ate breakfast. I just relaxed until about noon, which was when my Aunt and Uncle came by to pick us up to spend the night at their house. We got Mickey and Mike, who were at their grandparents’ house, and then we went to see “Every Which Way but Loose” starring Clint Eastwood. It was good. We went to Mickey and Mike’s (where I’m spending the night). We all had a blast! We did (among other things) eat, play “Tripoley” (I won) and watched TV. I finally got to bed at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday morning. It was a good day.

When I got home, I ate and did the paper route for the first time since July. I came home and played Monopoly with Stevie. It was a good day. P.S. – About the Monopoly game… I WON!

I got up at 7:30 a.m. today, went downstairs and ate breakfast. I worked for seven hours (9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) with a one-hour break for lunch. We waxed classroom floors. When I came home , I ate potatoburgers (delicious!). I went to Larry’s for his 15th birthday party. We had a good time. When it was done, he came over and we listened to records. It was a good day.

I got up at 7:00 a.m. today, went downstairs and got ready for work. At work, we mopped and waxed the upstairs and set up for bingo. After work, I came home and got dressed up. At 5:20 p.m. Don Kruse (the person I work with) came over and picked me up. Don, his two sisters, another girl and I went to Genesee Valley Mall to look around. While I was there I went to the new “Recordland” where I got the “Imagine” album by John Lennon. At 8:30 p.m., we arrived at “Rollhaven” where we roller skated until 11:00 p.m. I had a good time and fell only once. I got home at 11:30 p.m. It was a good, busy and long day.

…HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! We had our toasts, etc. and just celebrated. Our guests left soon afterwards. I finally got to sleep at 1:00 a.m. I got up again at 11:00 a.m., went downstairs and watched the Rose Parade. I did some cleaning-up of my room. The Rose Bowl (Michigan vs. USC) was held today. USC won 17-10 but one of the USC touchdowns was highly controversial. The replays showed that it wasn’t a touchdown. Oh well, we’ve got next year. I spent the rest of the day resting. It was a good day.

I got up at 11:00 a.m. today, went downstairs and watched TV. I passed away the time slowly on this last day of Christmas vacation. At 3:30 p.m., I went to work. We spent the time mopping the floors (they looked terrible after the New Year’s party)! I came home and ate dinner. I found out that the vacation out West that was planned for this year will be put off until 1980. I played Monopoly vs. Stevie and Mama. Mama won. It was a good day. School tomorrow…

At work, I didn’t work until 10:00 p.m. as I usually do on Wednesdays because of the cold temperatures. (3 degrees F, -40 F wind chill). I worked for two hours and cleaned rooms. I came home, ate and went to help on the paper route. When I got back I did my homework and watched TV. It was a good day.

I got up at 7:00 a.m. today, went downstairs and got ready for work. I worked from 8:00 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. During that time, I took down for bingo, cleaned rooms and mopped the halls. I came home, ate and went ice skating on the millpond. I tried on my speed skates but they didn’t work out too well. They were too tight. Daddy let me use his figure skates. They fit, but I’ll have to get used to the points on the ends. It was a good day.

They came at 1:30 p.m. Chris, Isabel and Zoltan (along with their parents, of course) spent the day here until about 6:00 p.m. During that time, we ate stuffed cabbage and then we ice skated. It was magnus bonus!! (Or should it be magnam bonam?) It was a great day! P.S. – The Nagy’s gave me $20 for a Christmas present.

I got up at 7:00 a.m. today, went downstairs and got ready for work. At work, I took down bingo and cleaned classrooms. There was heavy snow, so we spent two hours overtime shoveling snow. I came home, ate and rested until 5:00 p.m., at which time Larry and I went to St. John’s to shovel snow. I worked for 1 ½ hours. I came home and went to Larry’s and ate pizza. I came home and watched TV. It was a good day. P.S – It’s snowing hard tonight, so I have to shovel at the church at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow.

At work, I cleaned the rooms and cleaned the gym. I’ve been thinking a long time and I’ve finally decided to quit my job (at least until summer). It interferes too much with my homework and with my spare time. (What spare time?) It was a good day.

It was a good day.

At 6:00 p.m., I went with Don and his sisters to Rollhaven to skate for the night. We also stopped at Genesee Valley where I got “Live Peace in Toronto” and three singles at Recordland. I got back at around midnight and stayed up to watch “Saturday Night Live”. It was a good day. P.S. – This is the last Saturday on my job until summer.
I got up at 7:00 a.m. today, went downstairs and got ready for work. At work, I took down for bingo and mopped classrooms. I came home, had pizza for lunch and rested for a while. At 6:00 p.m., I went with Don and his sisters to Rollhaven to skate for the night. We also stopped at Genesee Valley where I got “Live Peace in Toronto” and three singles at Recordland. I got back at around midnight and stayed up to watch “Saturday Night Live”. It was a good day. P.S. – This is the last Saturday on my job until summer.

When he left, I went in the back yard to play Frisbee. It was a good day.

We went to K-Mart where I got a new windbreaker and some blank cassettes. I got home at 2:15 p.m. and spent the day ‘til 5:30p.m. doing my homework. I went outside a while and later rode my bike to a 6:30 p.m. YC meeting. It lasted an hour. I chaired the meeting for the first time. I came home and watched TV. It was a good day.

I did my usual Saturday work and then raked leaves until 12:30 p.m. We quit due to rain. I went home and heard that Uncle Steve had a heart attack. Apparently, he’ll be okay. We went to our cousin’s for the afternoon. I came home and rested until 6:30 p.m., at which time Larry and I went to help on the “Godspell” cast party put on by the Youth Commission. While we were waiting for “Marriage Encounter” to end, we went to the “Rock-a-thon” at the Sunshine Food store on North Road. We worked on the party from 9:00 p.m. ‘til 10:30 p.m. The party lasted until 1:00 a.m. It was a good day.

After we ate, Stevie and I rowed the boat to Wilson Lake. Dad, Vicky and Linda took the canoe and went too. I took a few pictures and got a little fresh air. I came home just in time for “60 Minutes”. I watched it and ran a mile. It was a good day.

I packed my stuff and got to St. John’s at about 9:00 a.m. We got to Oxford at 10:00 a.m., unpacked and checked the place out. We had a late start since one of the organizers had a flat tire. I went to the store with Jerry Kirkland, Don Kruse and the cook-of-the-house to pick up some chow. I got a Frisbee while I was there. We had the usual group mixers and discussions. We ate and listened to my tape. Apparently they liked it. We did some more group things and then had some popcorn. It was a good day.

When I came back, I went in the back yard, played some catch, etc. We had a small barbecue in the back. It was delicious. Don, Sandy and Debbie came over for a while. Don and I gave the girls a little scare by taking them through the spider-infested culvert under the bridge. We spent the rest of the day talking. It was a good day.

I got up at 5:00 a.m. today, went downstairs and got ready for the canoe trip. Don took our group to Powers where we boarded a bus to go to the Rifle River near Omer, Mich. The 35-mile canoe trip started out okay with Larry and I tipping over canoes. About halfway through the trip, a bad storm broke out. The type of clouds that form tornadoes passed overhead while extremely heavy winds whipped branches into the river (one fell into the canoe). A tree also fell near us. We finally all made it back safely. I finally got back home at 9:15 p.m. It was a good day.

I got up at 9:30 a.m. today, went downstairs and got ready 4 church. After mass, D & S K’s and Reggie H & I went to the Twelve Oaks Mall. While we were there, we saw “Animal House”, ate and spent money. I got home at 7:00 p.m. I benched. It was a good day.

I got up at 6:00 a.m. today, went downstairs and watched the “Today” show. School was good today. I worked setting up 4 bingo. I came home and got ready to go on retreat. The K’s picked me up at 7:00 p.m. and we went to Holy Redeemer. From there, a bus picked us up and we went to Oxford. We unpacked, did the usual group mixers and sacked out. It was a good day.

I got up at 8:00 a.m. today, got ready for the day and ate breakfast. We did all sorts of neat stuff today. We did the usual Bible shit, but we also went outside and got firewood, walked, talked and had snowball fights. I went to bed about 1:30 a.m. It was a good day.

When I got home, I immediately drove to Carole Dean’s house to work on a radio broadcast tape. I got home at 7:00 p.m. It was a good day.

Jerry Kirkland came over 4 a while to listen to the latest Steve Martin album. After he left, the K’s came over. We played Scrabble, etc. After they left, I watched TV. It was a good day.

I got up at 11:00 a.m. today when Jerry Kirkland came over for a while. After he left, I ate breakfast. I just read some “Doonesbury” until 3:30 p.m. at which time I walked over to the church to help decorate. We did that until 9:30 p.m. when we went over to the Rectory to chow on some pizza. Fr. Harvey gave me a Christmas card (containing $25). It was a good day.

Christmas Eve
I got up at 7:00 a.m. today, went downstairs and watched the “Today” show. I worked from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. stripping classroom floors. I came home and Mickey, Mike and the gang came over. I opened two of my gifts today. I got a wallet from Unca Wonnie and a rotating burnout light from S.K. When M & M left, I spent the rest of the day reading. It was a good day. “May this record live 4ever.” 5 completed diaries 1974-1979. (Coming soon #6)
