SATURDAY, DECEMBER 25, 1976 - Christmas Day!
I got up at 4:10 a.m. today, went downstairs and did the Journal route. We got done at 5:45 a.m. We slept until 8:00 a.m. when we opened our stockings. I got a Canadian silver dollar, candy, a mini memo pad, a pen and this diary. (Here goes number three!!!) We all ate breakfast and we opened our gifts that were under the tree. I got some cool clothes, a velcro target-ball game, an ABBA album (YEA!) and a calculator. About the ABBA album, Stevie got a record played for our room!!!!! Then Grandma and Grandpa came over. This is one of the best Christmases I've ever had!!!

I got up at 8:15 a.m. today, went downstairs and did the Journal route. Today we played with our Christmas presents. The Nagy's came over (my godparents). We played and watched TV. They bought me a Christmas present. It turned out to be a calculator like the one I got yesterday. They said I could take it to the store and cash it in for money to buy something with but I didn't want to do that, so I sold it to Daddy for $10.00. I'll probably buy some records with the money. It was a good day. P.S. - Michigan Senator Phil Hart died today.

I got up at 9:30 a.m. today, went downstairs and watched TV. Uncle Steve had to leave today. After he left, I got Larry a birthday present. I also got four records (good ones) for myself. We did some collecting on the Journal route today. Larry had a birthday party today. Then we came over and had cake and ice cream at our house. It was a good day. Paper days - 11 down, 10 to go.

I got up at 10:50 a.m. today, went downstairs and watched TV. I paid the bill for the Flint Journal today, so everything we collect from now on is ours. Well, 1976 came to an end today. We stayed up until midnight as usual. We had some egg nog and peanuts. Well, it was a great "hic" day. See you in 1977! Paper days - 14 down, 7 to go.

After that, I shoveled out a rink on the Millpond but we didn't skate on it today. Michigan lost the Rose bowl to USC 14-6. It was a good day. Paper days - 15 down, 6 to go.

Well, it's the last day of Winter vacation, so we just sat around until 5:00 p.m. That's when Mickey and Mike came over. They gave me a late Christmas present. It was an album of John Denver songs. They plan to get another record player with that money. We did both paper routes today. We watched the "Nova" show. It was about the U-2 spy plane. It was cool and so was the day. Paper days - 19 down, 2 to go.

On the way back we saw the wreckage of a mini-jet that crashed last night near a ramp near Bishop airport. We did the papers today. I also did my homework for communications. It was a good day. I got up at 9:00 a.m. today, went downstairs and watched cartoons. There was good news today. After Mama and Daddy get the taxes paid, they're going to buy a super-good record player with 8-track! So instead of buying us a new one, they're giving us the stereo downstairs. We won't get it for a few months. But for something that good, I can wait! Larry came over and we shoveled off the ice and ice skated. It was a good day.

The Forro's came over today and had dinner with us. I might not have school tomorrow because it looks like we might get one helluva snowstorm! It was a good day.

I got up at 6:30 a.m. today, went downstairs and goofed around. I was right about not having school! 10 inches of new snow! (Blowing and drifting, too!) I took advantage of the situation to go to "Lutz's". And I got an ABBA album plus two singles. Larry and I got ourselves each a pizza. Everything is dug-out pretty well by now and I think it'll be school as usual tomorrow. It was a neat (and snowy) day.

I got up at 9:00 a.m. today, went downstairs and watched cartoons. We gave our room a TOTAL overhaul today. Partly to have a clean room and partly to make room for the record player when we get it. I went to the store to get a few things for mama. Daddy worked on the Buick today and found that the insides of it were rusted out. We might have to trade it in, but I sure don't want to see it go. It was a good day.

The part I'm trying out for is Peter. Another kid (who seems to be quite good) is trying for the same part. It'll be tough. But I'll try not to get my hopes up and try my best. Well, it was a good day.

I got up at 6:15 a.m. today, went downstairs and watched the "Today" show. School was good today. Well, today was the day that doesn't come around very often: a new President is inaugurated. I brought my radio to school so in Mrs. Wassen's class we got to listen to President Carter make his Inaugural Address. I stayed for the rehearsal today. We won't have school tomorrow because today is the end of the second quarter. It was a good day.

Paul made a mess upstairs which was (to say the least) quite bad. Guess who had to clean it up? Well, it was a cool day. (But not because of Paul.)

I got up at 8:15 a.m. today, went downstairs and watched cartoons. I went to the FHS band carnival today. I bought a Charlie Brown book. I did a little listening to our police band radio. We had potato paprikos. I also took a bath today. It was a good day.

I got up at 8:00 a.m. today, went downstairs and got all dressed up for church. After REP I did some room cleaning. I watched some TV and did some experimenting with the walkie-talkies. (I found you can hear 'em on certain radio frequencies.) Well, it was a good day.

Mike gave me the collecting stuff and I’ll start collecting Monday. It was a good day.

Well, today was the finals of the 1977 “Superstars”. Kyle Rote Jr. won again this year (his 3rd time). I also scored a basketball game for gym today. It was a good day.

Stevie and Larry did the route while I went to the High School with mama & daddy to hear an orientation for 9th grade. It was a good day.

Then, Mama & Daddy went to Flint and ordered a new TOYOTA! It’ll be bright yellow! Then they got ready to buy a new super good stereo. We might get it tomorrow! It was a COOL day!

It was a real warm day, so for the first time this year we could do the Journal route without a coat. The biggest happening of the day was when we got the new Zenith STEREO! We also got the old record player for OUR ROOM! I don’t have much room to say more, but it was a COOL day.

I got up at 7:30 a.m. today, went downstairs and watched cartoons. I went upstairs to read for most of the morning. There were tornado watches and warnings around the area, but about the worst we got was a violent downpour. (Which had to come on our route.) Daddy worked over today. I took a bath. It was a good day.

I got up at 8:30 a.m. today, went downstairs and got dressed up for church. After REP and the palm blessing was over, I came home to celebrate grandma’s birthday. (It was really on Friday, though.) We had chicken paprikas and then we went to the High School to see “Our Town”. (We had to read the play for a test in Communications Last Friday.) After that, we stopped in at a super-cool coin & Stamp show. We couldn’t stay long because it was about to close. It was a good day.

We bought some pizzas, etc. and ate over at our house. We went looking for insulators and found one (broken in half, but all pieces accounted for) by South Holly road. We found more by a railroad track, but they were up on the pole. After we drove him home, we did the Journal and Tri-County routes. We got done at 7:30 p.m. It was a good day.

Mama and Daddy went to Flint today and ordered a new CAR! It’ll be a blue Volkswagen Rabbit! (1977) We’ll probably get it Monday! We also did the route today. It was a cool day. P.S. – Our couch and rocker were taken away today to be reupholstered.

I got up at 6:00 a.m. today, went downstairs and searched for our Easter baskets. I found mine first. I got a book about WWII flying aces. Stevie got a book on trivia. We ate breakfast and the Grandma and Grandpa came over. We talked and then we ate a ham dinner today. Vicky went over to their house to stay the night. Stevie and I took advantage of the 80 degree F weather and rowed the boat to the high banks and stayed for a while. It was a good Easter.

We did both routes today and got done at 7:00 p.m. I watched “CPO Sharkey”. Tomorrow morning, Stevie, Vicky and I have to go to the dentist. It was a good day.

Then we ate at Ponderosa and after that we went to an aquarium store to look at some fish. The stopwatch that Stevie and I ordered came in today. It’s COOL! We did the paper route, came back and tested the stopwatch. We watched a baseball game on TV. We won. Mike Wheat is on a band tour in Florida, so Stevie and I will have to do the papers tomorrow morning. It was a good day.

We dropped Kevin off at his house at about 5:00 p.m. I’m excited because Mr. Leh is taking John Wiley, Mitch Brown and me to a Tiger baseball game!!!!!!!! I’m going to bed now so I’ll be rested up for tomorrow. It was a good day.

Daddy also got a new green lawnmower today. It was a good day.

I did the Journal route and stopped at the skate shop because Mr. Licata wanted to give me a job tomorrow. I’ll see what it’s like. I went to the State Road ice cream social. I had fun. An airplane dropped peanuts and if you got one with red tape on it you’d get a free ice cream. I found one! Well, it was a hot (97 degrees F) but fun day.

Grandma was taken to the hospital because she might have some kidney trouble. It was a fun day. 125 feet!

Larry and I did the route while Stevie scored a baseball game. John Hillis will be taking over the Journal route. It’ll probably be on Wednesday. I beat Larry in tennis 6-4. Daddy got the bike down today. I’m riding his this year. It was a good day.

Mama was at the hospital to see grandma after her kidney stones and gall bladder were removed. The operation went great and grandma is doing fine. I accomplished a goal for tennis this year. We showed John Hillis the route again today to make sure he had it right. He’ll have the route tomorrow. I practiced some tennis today. Mama went to Aunt Diane’s for a Tupperware party. I got up at 6:30 a.m. today, went downstairs and watched the “Today” show. School was good today, as far as last days go. We had finals in Communication and I didn’t have to have one in math because of my good grades in that class. School was finally out for the summer at 2:30 p.m. My next school day will be in F.H.S.! We did the Tri-County route and got done at 6:04 p.m. I played at Larry’s house for a while. It was a FANTASTIC day! GOODBYE F.M.S.!

We did the Journal route today because John Hillis has a parish campout. Mama went to the hospital to see grandma. She’s doing fine. I got some good tennis shoes today, also. It was a good day.

I got up at 8:30 a.m. today, went downstairs and got dressed for church. After mass Larry and I went to Mr. Hawke’s class. I went up to the hospital to see Grandma today. Her side hurt, but otherwise she’s doing fine. We stopped at Ponderosa to eat on the way home. I tried my new tennis racket today. I lost to Larry 6-1. I stayed at Larry’s house for a while. I’m riding to John Clark’s house tomorrow. It was a good day.

Mama and Daddy went to a drive-in with the Youngs. While they were gone, Paul locked us out of the house. I managed to get in by prying the bathroom window open and crawling in. It was a good day.

I came home and rested until 4:00 p.m., when a farewell concert was held for Fr. John Hayes. When we got home, Stevie, Larry and I asked Daddy if we could fix up his old boat. He said we could! We might start this weekend! Tomorrow is when we’ll start taking pictures to use up the film that has been in the camera since 7-23-76. It was a good day.

At about 9:15 a.m., I had a piece of toast. From then on, I got better. I’m tired, so I’ll stop here. It was a good day. P.S. – We had tornado watches today.

We left at about 5:00 p.m. We also rode to Seven Lakes State Park but we didn’t swim. At 9:00 p.m. we watched the fireworks at the High School. It was a great day. P.S. – There is a tornado warning for us now, but nothing is happening here.

When we got home, we picked up branches from the wind last night. A tornado tore through a trailer park in Flint last night. Several trailers were wrecked but no one was seriously hurt. It’s still hot & muggy. It was a good day.

I got up at 8:00 a.m. today, went downstairs and got ready for tennis. I hurt my knee some, so I came home a half-hour early to make sure it didn’t get worse. At 2:15 p.m., we started for Flint to see Star Wars. It was SUPERCOOL!!!!!!!!!!!! When I got home, I found that Aunt Cathy and the rest are coming tomorrow! This time, they’re staying ‘til the 20th. It was a good day. P.S. – There was a blackout in New York.

When we got back we were hot so we went to Seven Lakes. When we got home we had some ham and watermelon. I missed most of the All-Star Game because Eva wanted to watch “Love Story”. I got up at 9:00 a.m. today, went downstairs and rode to Lutz’s. I bought the other Beatles album (1962-1966). It’s cool! At about 1:30 p.m. Grandma and Grandpa came over to pick up Stevie and me so we can stay overnight at their trailer. They also took us to Flushing to go bowling. I got a high score of 79. It was a good day.

I have some good teachers, but I feel I have a lot of hard work in the year ahead. I got home at 2:45 p.m. Daddy had to work overtime today. I’m going to watch “The Hindenburg” now. At 12:15 p.m. I went with Fran to Grand Blanc to watch Larry play in a St. John’s football game. St. John’s lost 14-8. The Detroit Tigers didn’t fare so well, either. They lost to New York 8-7. It’s our last game of the season. Even so, we have a 4th place finish (in the AL East). Not bad! (Not the pennant, but not bad!) It was a cool day.

Linda and Larry came over. I found the old target-ball game that I got last Christmas We all had a big game. Larry won. All of us went outside and played some football in the snow. I got up at 6:15 a.m. today, went downstairs and watched the “Today” show. School was good today. I had homework for Algebra and English. I worked at Licata’s from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. I was paid $2.00. I went to REP from 6:30p.m. to 8:30 p.m. I spent the rest of the day doing homework. On December 5 I have an appointment with a new orthodontist that just moved to Fenton. It was a good day.

We had no school today because of a pre-Winter storm with 4 inches (10 cm) of snow. There was blowing and drifting also. I shoveled at Licata’s and was paid $2.00. I went to Dr. Drakes for my X-rays. Everything went okay. It was a good day.
